Crossborder agreement is concluded on promotion of cooperation

The natural gas and transmission system operator JSC  “Conexus Baltic Grid” (hereinafter - “Conexus”) together with the system operators from Estonia, Lithuania and Finland and the operator of Lithuanian LNG terminal have entered into an agreement on the implementation of further mutual cooperation to facilitate the technical cooperation of the interconnected natural gas system and to improve the security of the transmission system in the territory of the Baltic States and Finland.

The aim of the cooperation prescribes a more efficient planning of the operation of natural gas transmission system in the territory of the Baltic States - Finland in such issues as system balancing, natural gas flows, system security, repairs etc.

The agreement is entered into among five industry representatives in the Baltic States and Finland – Conexus in Latvia, the natural gas transmission system operator "Elering AS” in Estonia, the natural gas transmission system operator "AB Amber Grid” in Lithuania, the natural gas transmission system operator "Gasgrid Finland Oy” in Finland and LNG terminal operator "AB Klaipėdos nafta” in Lithuania.

Jānis Eisaks, Chairman of the Board of Conexus: "The entered into cross-border cooperation between operators of several countries demonstrates a shared vision and willingness of neighbouring countries to work together to approach a creation of a unified regional gas market. It will also bring significant benefits to the users of natural gas transmission system, as the implementation of this cooperation means a more convenient, transparent and even safer operation of system in the future."

One of the first steps within the concluded cooperation will be the establishment of a work team with representatives nominates by the abovementioned five operators. The task of the work team will be defining of the existing needs and problems, drawing up an action plan and delegation of functions that the operations of each country need to perform to improve the operation of the natural gas transmission system in this territory.
