“Conexus Baltic Grid” AS to invest EUR 8.1 million in the maintenance and development of the gas transmission network this year
To ensure continuous and safe gas transmission, the unified gas transmission and storage system operator “Conexus Baltic Grid” AS (“Conexus”) will invest an average of EUR 8.1 million in the maintenance and development of the gas transmission system in 2026. The investments are intended for diagnostics, repair works, as well as infrastructure development.
“Safe and uninterrupted operation of the gas transmission infrastructure is our priority, which is why it undergoes continuous inspection, improvement and proper maintenance,” emphasizes Ivars Cibuļskis, Head of Gas Transmission at Conexus.
A total of EUR 2.1 million is planned this year for infrastructure development, including the reconstruction of six gas transmission pipeline crossings with roads and railway lines on strategically important routes. The works include the reconstruction of the Riga–Inčukalns UGS II line crossings with roads V74 (Ropaži–Podkājas) and A4 (Upesciems–Salaspils), the reconstruction of the Vireši–Tallinn transmission pipeline crossings with road V196 (Valmiera–Brenguļi) and the Valmiera–Strenči railway section, as well as the reconstruction of the Riga–Panevėžys transmission pipeline crossings with road V1039 (Iecava–Raņķi) and the Iecava–Jelgava railway section, thereby improving safe operation in high‑risk areas.
Meanwhile, EUR 6 million will be allocated to the maintenance of gas transmission infrastructure. This year, internal diagnostics is planned for the Izborska–Inčukalns UGS transmission pipeline, as well as for the Pskov–Riga transmission pipeline section from Inčukalns UGS to the connection point with the Vireši–Tallinn pipeline. Diagnostics is also planned for 17 transmission pipeline sections with a total length of 71.3 km, using magnetic tomography technology.
Repair works are also planned for several transmission pipeline sections. Works will take place on the Pskov–Riga and Izborska–Inčukalns UGS pipelines, as well as on both lines of the Riga–Inčukalns UGS transmission pipeline. Repairs are also planned on the Vireši–Tallinn and Riga–Panevėžys pipelines, as well as in selected sections of the Iecava–Liepāja transmission pipeline.
In 2026, the renewal of pipeline insulation is also planned for approximately 6.5 km across the Vireši–Tallinn, Riga–Panevėžys, Pskov–Riga, Riga–Inčukalns UGS II line, and Riga–Daugavpils gas transmission pipelines.
