Calculation of potential natural gas injection scenarios

JSC “Conexus Baltic Grid”, in cooperation with the technical supervisor of Inčukalns underground gas storage, company Storengy from France has prepared calculations on possible scenarios for the injection of natural gas into storage.

Following the end of the storage cycle of 2019/2020, JSC “Conexus Baltic Grid” will specify information on the maximum amount of active natural gas to be stored that storage will provide during the 2020/2021 storage cycle (technical capacity of storage). Before the end of 2019/2020 storage cycle JSC “Conexus Baltic Grid” predicts that the total storage capacity available for system users in the 2020/2021 storage cycle could be up to 21.5 TWh or 3 TWh more than in the previous cycle*.

The Board of Conexus Baltic Grid will approve the exact storage capacity and remaining available storage capacity for the 2020/2021 storage cycle on May 20 and storage available capacity will be available for booking from May 21. Additional storage pressure measurements will be carried out at this time to re-evaluate compliance of scenarios with technical performance of the storage.

Pursuant to point 8.1 of Decision No 1/10 from of May 28, 2018 of the Council of the Public Utilities Commission Regulations for the Use of Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage, JSC “Conexus Baltic Grid” during the period from May 1 to May 21 of year 2020/2021 storage cycle, in a single publication shall publish storage technical capacity and available storage capacity for the 2020/2021 storage cycle on its website. Available storage capacity for 2020/2021 storage cycle shall be calculated as the difference between the technical storage capacity and the booked storage capacity of the system users for the 2020/2021 storage cycle.

Information on the technical capacity for storage cycle 2020/2021 and capacity available for booking JSC “Conexus Baltic Grid” intends to publish after the decision of the Board.
