Maintenance works of Gazprom are planned and will not affect Latvia's natural gas supply
The maintenance works of the gas transmission system of Gazprom on the Valdai - Pskov gas pipeline are planned and coordinated in advance with all transmission system operators (TSOs) of the Baltic States and Finland. The planned works will not affect Latvia's natural gas supply.
The planned maintenance works were already agreed on 3 December 2021, when they were published on the Conexus Baltic Grid website as well as on the ENTSOG Transparency Platform.
Gazprom's planned maintenance works on Russian territory will take place in two phases, from 17 January to 6 February and from 24 February to 7 April 2022. During the maintenance works, Gazprom will replace sections of the pipeline to improve the safety of the transmission system. The replacement of the transmission sections is carried out in accordance with the results of Gazprom's internal diagnostics.
Latvia is fully supplied by the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility, but market participants also have access to alternative natural gas supply routes from Finland's Balticconnector pipeline or the Lithuanian and Klaipeda LNG terminal.
For the last five years, no significant volumes of natural gas have been fed from the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility to the Russian territory during the winter season, and Gazprom plans its main pipeline maintenance works during the winter season, when there is no natural gas supply to Latvia, and it is possible to organize the supply of the disconnected section from the Inčukalns underground gas storage.
