Latvia's gas supply system is working smoothly despite Balticconnector shutdown

Following the severe storm that hit the Baltic Sea region last day, Estonian and Finnish transmission system operators decided to suspend the operation of the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland on Sunday morning after technical problems were identified. Conexus Baltic Grid informs that the Latvian gas supply system is working smoothly and gas availability to system users is assured.

At present, the Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage (hereinafter - UGS) has total reserves of 21.4 TWh, which is sufficient to supply Latvia during the winter period. The injection season at Inčukalns UGS continues until 14 October.

The Estonian transmission system operator Elering indicates that the Balticconnector outage will not affect Estonian natural gas supplies, as natural gas will be supplied from Inčukalns UGS. Finnish consumers are supplied via the Inkoo LNG terminal.
