Inčukalns underground gas storage prepared for injection
Considering the need to ensure sufficient natural gas reserves in the Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage (UGS), JSC Conexus Baltic Grid (hereinafter - Conexus) has made all necessary preparations to start natural gas injection. Natural gas injection into Inčukalns UGS commenced today, February 26.
Normally the injection of natural gas into Inčukalns UGS starts after the end of the withdrawal season, which is set for April 30, 2022. However, due to the need to ensure sufficient natural gas stocks, the storage facility is prepared for the start of injection within 24 hours.
Uldis Bariss, Chairman of the Management Board of Conexus: "Given the geopolitical situation in Europe and the concerns about a possible shortage of natural gas supplies in the region, it is important to keep the maximum amount of natural gas stored in the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility available. Therefore, to contribute to the preservation of natural gas reserves in the regional Inčukalns underground gas storage facility, a decision has been taken to prepare the storage facility for injection."
By the end of the withdrawal season, the storage facility will be able to inject at least 49.20 GWh per day.
