Users of natural gas have been provided with the opportunity to connect to the natural gas transmission system

Since the Public Utilities Commission (the Regulator) approved the connection regulations, it is possible for the biomethane producers, LNG system operators and users of natural gas to connect to the natural gas transmission system themselves in cooperation with the unified natural gas transmission and storage operator JSC Conexus Baltic Grid (Conexus).

Since the regulations adopted by the Regulator have entered into force, the users are provided with the opportunity to organise arranging the connection to the transmission system subject to the necessary requirements. The installation of new connections is carried out subject to strict technical requirements and natural gas transmission infrastructure operation safety regulations. It should be noted that Conexus only provides an opportunity to connect to the system where it is technically possible.

“The essence of the current regulation is to provide the biomethane producers, LNG system operators and users of gas themselves with the opportunity to decide, plan as well as implement connection to the natural gas transmission system where it is technically possible. As the process is technically and financially complicated, moreover, the responsible specialists of Conexus will carefully evaluate every possible solution for the connection, it is too early at the moment to predict how many will be interested in using this opportunity, but at the same time it is a step closer to gasification in the wider territory of Latvia, while simultaneously strengthening the positions of natural gas as a resource” says Zane Kotāne, Chairperson of the Board of Conexus, talking about the importance of direct connections in Latvia's way to gasification.

Conexus, as a transmission system operator, in accordance with the decision of the Council of the Regulator, has published the information on the website www.conexus.lv that has to be provided to confirm the preparation of the natural gas supply system of the user for connection to the transmission system, including a detailed description of steps for arranging the connection, as well as other information that is substantial for the potential users.
