Public consultation on the potential development sites of new biomethane injection points

In order to promote biomethane production in Latvia, AS "Conexus Baltic Grid" (hereinafter - Conexus) is constantly looking for new solutions to provide opportunities to inject biomethane into the natural gas transmission system for producers whose existing or future biomethane production plants are located relatively far from the existing infrastructure.

Conexus has signed a contract for the purchase of equipment for the first biomethane injection point (hereinafter referred to as BIP) in Džūkste Parish and is currently working on the design of the gas connection node, which will be followed by its production and construction, as well as the development of information technology solutions for BIP management and data exchange. It will be possible to transport biomethane from the production plant to BIP in a compressed form as bioCNG with the help of container transport and inject it into the natural gas transmission system. According to the 2024-2033 natural gas transmission system development plan approved last year by the Public Utilities Commission, it is planned to gradually build four BIPs, continuing to develop the natural gas transmission system in other parts of Latvia as well.

Public consultation document (in Latvian)

Conexus conducted an independent analysis and assessment of potentially possible other BIP locations on the territory of Latvia, as part of which suggestions have been received from representatives of the biogas industry regarding potential BIP locations. Taking into account what the industry has expressed, Conexus, wanting to know the opinion of all involved parties regarding the necessary construction time, planned use and location evaluation of the newly proposed potential BIP in Rēzekne, Raganas, as well as the previously consulted location in Skrunda, invites all interested parties to submit their proposals and comments about the intention expressed in the consultation document by answering the questions HERE until July 12, 2024.
